Since I left Beanlogic I have been working in Bristol. This is a 45–60min drive from Cardiff (depending whether an idiot has decided to choose that particular time of the morning to point his/her car in the opposite direction in the fast lane on the M4, thus ruining everyone else‘s commute).
In order to miss the worst of the traffic I leave before 7:30, which means I‘m having my breakfast before 7am. This is now becoming a problem…
Traditionally my breakfast has been cereal or a couple of rounds of toast. This has been more than enough to sustain me until lunchtime. I even used to cycle the 4 miles to work, no doubt burning a bunch of calories (very socially responsible of me, low carbon footprint and all that).
The traditional option is now proving wholly inadequate since, at about 10:30am I am feeling the hunger. I don't just mean slightly peckish. To describe it in terms of the urge to consume the proverbial horse does not do it justice. I am frequently ravenous to the point of distraction. Before I forget, my word of the day is equivore, very apt.
Now, I take fruit in to work with me so that I can snack in a socially acceptable way (candy and potato-based snacks are always the bad guys in the news, in fact they‘ve now probably replaced cigarettes as the thing bad guys have in their hands in poorly made action movies starring Steven Segal).
About the (over) use of parentheses. It will not surprise those who know me that I write like I talk. That is, always going off on tangents in invisible parentheses (or in italics it seems), thus confusing the main thrust of the point I'm trying to make.
Anyway, back to breakfast. After experimenting with a plethora of breakfast options, varying from cereal (Jordans Country Crisp (Strawberry)), porridge (no particular brand) and toast (toppings including honey, marmalade, peanut butter and Marmite), I have concluded that none provide me with the sustenance that is required to take one all the way from 7am to 12pm. Neither the might of the bacon sandwich nor the power of banana (added to porridge on the recommendation of Emma Boulton) provides the necessary nutrition. What am I to do?

You clearly need to split your breakfast into an early breakfast (before you leave) and a healthy mid morning snack at about 10am.
Grazing is a socially acceptable way of eating and will probably benefit you. Plus with the addition of your new Brompton (only a branded folding bicycle will do) you will be burning a few more calories than usual – 30 minutes of cycling at 12km per hour burns 150 calories, take the speed up to 16km per hour (and let‘s face it your guns can easily cope with that, even on 20in wheels) and you are burning 200 calories. That is another 2 pieces of toast…..
Post more mundane things like this. It is far more interesting!
